In a bid to create awareness on Eye Health and provide an otherwise overlooked primary health care service, the BAPS Charities in partnership with a lauded Kenyan institution, Lion’s Eye Hospital hosted the Annual Eye Camp on the 12th of February 2017 at the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir on Limuru Road.
The Camp which reached out to residents of Nairobi at large ran from 8am to 4pm. 534 individuals from various communities and backgrounds were served. Free eye health screening, refraction testing, consultation, medicines, reading glasses and referrals were provided. Including ENT Specialist consultation, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar checks.
Many of the attendees at the Eye Camp were made aware of eye health problems they were otherwise unaware of. Further to that, the medical professionals serving at the Annual Eye Camp managed to detect and identify over 100 anomalies and irregularities that would require further treatment, correction and surgery.
30 administrative, operational and medical volunteers of BAPS Charities and Lion’s Eye Hospital were glad to have been able to make an essential service available to the local community.
The partnership hopes to extend their services in order to serve the community in which we live ensuring patient awareness, education and access to healthcare.
