BAPS Charities organized a food drive at Nungwi Leprosy Camp on 21st February, 2016 at Kigamboni, Dar-Es-salaam
Nungwi Leprosy Camp was established in 1964 by the then president of Tanzania. 50 homes were built in order to house over 100 people suffering from leprosy. Currently, the camp houses over 400 people, and is looked after by Mr. Ambrose Augustino Benjamin (Lochi).
BAPS Charities volunteers played with the children after handing out individual gift packets of biscuits, chocolates, sweets, bottles of juice and water to each child, others visited the houses of the patients. After inquiring and interacting with each family head, food rations were donated which could be sufficient for about two weeks for each family.
The total value of the goods donated was Tsh. 5,000,000/- and each of the 50 homes were donated the following:
- 2 kg sugar
- 2 kg rice
- 250 grams salt
- 2 kg beans
- 1 liter of cooking oil
- 5 kg of maize flour
- 2 kg all purpose flour(unga wa ngano)
- Packet of toiletries
