On February 3, 2015, BAPS Charities volunteers joined the Deputy Minister of State Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Mr. Kassim Majaliwa along with various community leaders to inaugurate the Maktaba Primary School. Six months ago, BAPS Charities undertook the project of renovating the Maktaba Primary School in Dar es Salaam. The school was in a dire state, and needed urgent repairing. In total, 18 classrooms, 20 toilets and the staff room were reconstructed by BAPS Charities, in a project that lasted 6 months.
Initially, the school was part of the Upanga Primary School. However, due to the rising number of students, the school was split into two campuses in the year 2000. Currently, 700 students, boys and girls aged 6 to 14, study at this government run school for free. Under the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Mwajabu Kalisia, are 23 teachers who teach Mathematics, English, Kiswahilli, Science, Political Science, Geography, History and Physical Education respectively.
The day’s festivities included cultural programs and dances by the students of the school along with speeches by the assembled dignitaries. Each of the 700 students were provided gift packs by BAPS Charities including essential school supplies and stationery.
It was a memorable occasion for the students, dignitaries and BAPS Charities volunteers who made the renovation of the school possible.
