In order to create greater awareness about Colorectal Cancer and Nutrition, BAPS Charities organized a Colorectal Cancer and Nutrition Awareness Workshop on March 14, 2010. Over 90 children between the ages of 4 and 14 and elders participated in it.
Wan Ling Hung of American Cancer Society conducted the workshop on Colorectal Cancer. She explained the causes, risk factors, screening guidelines to the participants. She also explained how healthy diet, exercise, and regular screening could help prevent Colorectal cancer which is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death in males and females in US. Local volunteers helped in translation as required.
The next session of the workshop on Healthy Snacking and Food Choices was conducted by Pallavi Patel. The participants learned which breakfast foods, snacks, drinks, nuts, oils are good for their health. They went home with an important message that one can begin eating healthy at any age.
