The accelerating destruction of forests threatens the ecological balance of the earth. Kenya in particular has had a record of losing 500 hectares annually of tree cover. Creating awareness in this frontier, on Sunday 17th November 2013, BAPS Charities in conjunction with the KENVO (Kijabe Environment Volunteers) coordinated the “Plant-a-Tree” campaign in an effort to reclaim lost areas of the Aberdares.
After a demonstration by KENVO on the correct technique of planting a tree, over 150 BAPS Charities volunteers planted 2000 trees which covered almost 2 hectares of forest land. Speaking on the occasion, Mr David Kuria, the founder and Director of KENVO, said “Since inception BAPS Charities have planted over 1.2 million trees and are continuously endeavoring to provide care and long-term solutions to environmental concerns.”
