BAPS Charities volunteers visited the Children’s Retention Home in the run up to Christmas. The home is run by the Tanzanian government. It was started in 1962 in response to rising crime rates among the youth. At present, it has got 30 resident children, whose ages range from 12 to 17 and who have been involved in various petty crimes. The warden of the home is Mr. Ramadhani Yahaya, who is assisted by Mr. Ali Said Msende.
Upon arrival, the volunteers were greeted by Mr. Ramadhani and proceeded to an assembly hall where they spent time with the children and distributed gifts in the spirit of the Christmas season. The message of goodwill and service amongst all communities was shared with all.
