In The Joy of Others: Walk-Run 2024 in the Orange County, CA

In 2019, only 36% of 12th-grade students in the U.S. performed at or above the proficient level in mathematics, indicating a significant achievement gap in STEM subjects compared to international peers. Additionally, each year, an estimated 2 billion metric tons of municipal solid waste is generated globally, with only about 13.5% recycled. United, we must strive to improve STEM education outcomes for students across the nation and encourage the development of a circular economy where waste reduction is a priority.

To support solutions to his challenge, this year in the Orange County area of Los Angeles, CA, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, BAPS Charities hosted its In the Joy of Others Walk/Run to benefit the TGR Learning Lab (A Tiger Woods Charity), Saahas Courage for Cause and BAPS Charities. BAPS Charities donated $10,000 to the TGR Learning Lab to offer more students unique learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) in a safe and inspiring learning environment. BAPS Charities also donated $5,000 to the Saahas for Cause to further their mission of educating, empowering and enabling the South Asian immigrant community to improve their quality of life.

We’re grateful for the support of BAPS Charities and our community as we work together to empower youth through education,” said Gyla Bell, Senior Executive Director, TGR Learning Lab Anaheim. “The TGR Learning Lab is proud to be the beneficiary of the events. Funds raised will help more students learn, grow and prepare for their futures through our free programs at our flagship campus in Anaheim and the new TGR Learning Lab Los Angeles opening in 2026.”

This event brought together over 500 community members at Centennial Park in Santa Ana, CA, including Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan, Santa Ana Councilmember Phil Bacerra, Gardena Mayor Tasha Cerda, Office of State Senator Josh Newman and Office of Congressman Lou Correa.

The event promoted healthier lifestyles and highlighted the profound impact of collective efforts in addressing local needs and challenges.
